Performance
When the audience enters the hall and takes a seat, they are already there. After all, they have set up and prepared everything we will now see. They inconspicuously guide the events on stage, with the sparse lighting of their control panels hiding their routine actions. They wait in the dark and are at the ready in case of an emergency, should the stage suddenly go up in flames. But perhaps they were the ones who threw the matches. Maybe they too wanted to finally step up to the stage in the flickering light of the fire that leaves the dust behind that calls itself theater.
In the frame of their production, Hanni&Anni shed light on the non-cis-male technicians in the theater. Together with Awa Winkel, Fynn Schroer and Nina Koempel, they humorously show alternatives to the prevailing male gesture of making and explaining in this professional field. »all the moves we make in the dark« is about visibilities and resistances, about work in and on the theater—and about the disastrous effects that spotlights can have if they make themselves autonomous.
Afterwards, dismantling and discussion with the audience.
When the performance is over, the actual work begins for the technicians. For the stage set must be dismantled and the many cables that Hanni&Anni use for their performance have to be wound up. Cleaning up together with the audience provides the frame for talking about work at the theater and about recognition: for half an hour, before the next set-up begins.
Hanni&Anni deal with the relationship between work and recognition at the theater. While studying at the University of Hildesheim, they discovered their shared interest in the staging of technology: »all the moves we make in the dark« is their second production.
