Cuba and life in the diaspora, family, haunting, lesbianism, and longing as an outlet for grief: the dance theater piece »THIS IS A LOVESTORY« plays with the boundaries between truth and exaggeration. It tells the story of deceased grandmothers, disintegrating countries, and César, a boy, a dancer, the ultimate romantic obsession … With an absurd infatuation driven by Eros as a starting point, »THIS IS A LOVE STORY« invites the audience to a hilarious and heartbreaking journey through longing, grief, and the complexity of Latinidad.

Soroa Lear

Soroa Lear she/her) is a queer Cuban-American dancer, performer, and writer based in Berlin. She completed her studies in dance and comparative literature at Reed College, which sparked her interest in the intersections of movement and critical theory. She sees performance as a way to break hearts and make people laugh, connecting to the dramatic and the subtle, the ugly and the beautiful. She has worked for Staatsoper Berlin, Deva Schubert, Rebecca Howell, Aru Ray Tormann, Wojciech Kosma and Sebastian Abarbanell amongst others, and has performed in spaces such as Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlinische Galerie, Sophiensaele, Schinkel Pavillon, Ballhaus Ost, Uferstudios Berlin, and many nightclubs with many drag queens. Alongside her performance work, she teaches a tri-weekly improvisation class, »VIBRANT BODY« at Tanzfabrik Berlin. Her written works have been published by Penny Press and Confluence Journal.
